Retired Paralympic swimmer Natalie du Toit was awarded the honorary MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) by the British High Commission over the weekend.
The MBE was in recognition of her work in Paralympic sport. The retired 13-time Paralympic gold medalist was honoured by His Royal Highness, The Earl of Wessex, Prince Edward at a glittering ceremony in Pretoria.
"I want to thank my family and everyone who has been behind me from the start. They are very special. I've went through a lot in my life, including a motorbike accident & my family was there for me," Du Toit said
The 7-time Commonwealth Games champion in multi-disability events shared her recipe for success upon receiving the honour.
"To aspiring young swimmers, be yourself, set your own goals & fight for your dreams no matter what."
"I'm very proud of her, this is the panicle of any award," said her elated manager, Annarita Strydom
Du Toit retired after the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games, where she won three gold and one silver medal.
