WATCH: Ramaphosa wishes Springboks well
Updated | By Valerie Robinson
President Cyril Ramaphosa wished the Springboks well ahead of their semi-final against Wales on Sunday.
In a video call with Bok captain Siya Kolisi, the president assured him that all South Africans are behind the national rugby team ahead of the big game.
The president joked that he clearly will not be needed by the team to succeed even though he was willing to step into the squad.
“I now know that I don't have to come and play any role in the squad. I mean I wanted to help but I don't need to help you guys have done extremely well”
“You have done extremely well and I wish you well for the semi-final. You have 57 million South Africans behind you.”

Kolisi said he hoped to see President Ramaphosa at the final, to which the president responded: “I’m coming to the final to lift the (Webb Ellis) trophy with you. Book me a ticket for the final. Give it your very best and know you are doing it for all of us. Strength to all of you.”
The Springboks are scheduled to take on Wales at 11am on Sunday in the second semifinal of the 2019 Rugby World Cup. In the first semi-final England sent defending champions New Zealand home thanks to a 19-7 victory in Yokohama.
The last time South Africa won the Rugby World Cup was in 2007, winning 15-6 against England. We may just have an opportunity to do it again. Earlier I spoke to Siya and assured him and the team of our unwavering support ahead of the semis against Wales. Best wishes to our boys. pic.twitter.com/4Va2TDbTVp
