Petition against Oscar Pistorius' release
Updated | By Sune du Toit
Oscar Pistorius will be released into correctional supervision on Friday, ten months after his incarceration, as per the recommendation of the Parole Board.
PWMSA Gauteng convener Jacqui Mofokeng said while they respect Judge Thokozile Masipa's verdict and Pistorius' right to be considered for parole, August is the wrong month for the release.
"We looked at the Parole Board's recommendation that Oscar be released on correctional supervision, but why should it be in this month? Why should it be on Women's Month? A woman has died," she said.
Mofokeng said Pistorius' release during Women's Month is an insult to women who face violent abuse.
"The parole board is insensitive to women's issues. Women's issues are not taken care off. That is why we are saying the Minister must listen to us," she said.
