In 1994, Alison Botha was abducted, gang-raped, and brutally attacked by Frans du Toit and Theuns Kruger in Gqeberha, formerly known as Port Elizabeth.

During the attack, Du Toit and Kruger slit Botha's throat and disembowelled her, leaving her for dead on Schoenmakerskop, a remote beach outside Gqeberha.

Miraculously, Botha survived the horrific attack and has since become a beacon of hope and resilience after being one of the first rape survivors to publicly identify herself in South Africa.

South Africans were shocked to learn that Botha recently suffered another medical setback after she suffered a brain aneurysm a few weeks ago.

Many people rallied behind Botha to assist with her medical costs by donating money.

Jacaranda FM's Good Morning Angels also stepped in and donated R100,000 towards the Alison Botha Trust for her medical and recovery needs.

Botha recently took to Facebook to share a photo of herself in her hospital bed and share a health update to all of those who have shown their support.

"I am still in hospital and starting the long journey of rehabilitation. I have been assessed by the doctors and physiotherapists and have been informed that I can soon be transferred to a specialist rehabilitation centre because of the generosity of so many selfless people. Thank you," she said.

"I can use my right arm, but unfortunately cannot sit up independently, stand or walk.

"I am still a bit shocked. I am still nervous and still worried about the journey ahead, but I am a fighter, as so many of you have reminded me. I have been through worse, and very determined to make a full recovery.

"I am thinking about you all and ask you to continue keeping me in your thoughts."
