Luckily, you can easily do that by knowing exactly when to take leave to fully take advantage of South African public holidays.
Firstly, let’s take a look at all the school and public holidays for 2025.
The Department of Basic Education already gazetted the school calendar for 2025 on January 31 2023.
Here's how to get 24 days off by only using 12 days of your leave (you might want to take your calendar out for this):
If you take leave from 11 April – 17 April and then from 22 April – 2 May, you will get 24 days off while only using 12 leave days.
Public holidays: April 18 (Good Friday), April 21 (Family Day), April 28 (Freedom Day), and May 1 (Workers Day), which equals 4 public holidays.
Leave Days: April 11, April 14, April 15, April 16, April 17, April 22, April 23, April 24, April 25, April 29, April 30, and May 2.
Total days off (Including weekends): 24
