Air New Zealand beat last year's winner, Singapore Airlines, to the top spot, while Qatar Airways was named best business class for its Qsuite and best for catering. Virgin Australia won prizes for best economy and cabin crew.
AirlineRatings.com said it chose Air New Zealand as its overall winner due to its 'multi-award-winning in-flight innovations, operational safety, environmental leadership and motivation of its staff'.
When it comes to motivation of staff a little closer to home, South African Airways said that it has signed a new labour deal with workers to end a costly week-long strike that had forced hundreds of flight cancellations.
