Everyone knows these names and their affiliation with South Africa, but there are a few celebrities you might not have known that are associated with the country.

Here are seven celebrities you might not have known have South African roots:
Christian Bale
Christian Charles Philip Bale, who was born in Wales in the United Kingdom, has South African roots from his dad, David Charles Howard Bale, who was born in Witbank, Emalahleni, on 2 September 1941.
Sienna Miller
American-British actress and model Sienna Miller is best known for her roles in 'American Sniper' and 'Anatomy of a Scandal'. Her mother, Josephine "Jo" Miller, was born in South Africa.
Roger Federer
The tennis legend Roger Federer has South African roots from his mother. Lynette Federer was born in Kempton Park, Gauteng, while his Swiss father, Rober Federer, was born in Berneck.
Sasha Pieterse
The surname says it all. The American actress and singer best known for appearing in the teen drama 'Pretty Little Liars' was born in Johannesburg and moved to Las Vegas at the age of three.

Dean Geyser
Another Johannesburg-born actor and singer. Geyser was born in South Africa on 20 March 1986 and later moved to Melbourne, Australia, at age 15. He is best known for starring in the Australian soap opera 'Neighbours' as Ty Harper and for appearing in the fourth season of the American hit TV show, 'Glee'.
J.R.R Tolkien
Probably the most shocking on the list, 'The Lord of the Rings' author was born in Bloemfontein, Free State, on 3 January 1892.
