Delivery drivers assault motorist in viral altercation video
Video footage of two men being assaulted by Takealot Mr D drivers has been shared on social media.
An altercation between two men and a group of delivery drivers has sparked outrage in South Africa.
Video footage of the dispute shows a motorist and a younger passenger being assaulted by delivery drivers, who took turns hitting the motorist.
According to The Citizen, Takealot confirmed that the incident occurred on Friday, March 21, on Human Rights Day.

"The incident is concerning, which is why we immediately initiated an urgent investigation with the franchisee responsible for the area," Takealot told The Citizen.
"According to our investigation, the incident in the video occurred during a funeral procession for a deceased independent contractor driver who tragically passed away following a motorcycle accident a few weeks earlier," Takealot explained.
In the video, it is also clear that many of the drivers tried to defuse the situation.
"The other independent contractor drivers tried to defuse the situation," stated Takealot, which also owns the Mr D brand.
The video footage shows that the incident took place on or near Wierda Road, close to Sutherland Ridge in Centurion.
Law enforcement was allegedly present during the procession but is not visible in the video footage.
Mr D emphasised that their drivers are independent contractors and not full-time employees.
"The conduct displayed by the independent contractor driver is not congruent with the policies and procedures we abide by at Mr D.
"While the situation was sombre and emotionally charged, there is no excuse for any of our partners to conduct themselves in the manner displayed in the video," the company stated.
