Donald Trump: "I will keep men out of women's sports!"
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
Former US president Donald Trump shared his outrage over the Algerian boxer Imane Khelif's 46-second win against Italian boxer Angela Carini on Thursday.
Donald Trump declared on his Truth Social network, "I will keep men out of womens sports," alongside a clip of the match between Imane Khelif and Angela Carini on Thursday.
Algerian boxer Imane Khelif won her match against Carini in just 46 seconds at the Paris Olympics, sparking a heated debate over gender eligibility rules.

Khelif was previously disqualified from the 2023 World Championships by the International Boxing Association (IBA) due to eligibility criteria concerns, but was allowed to compete in the Paris Olympics.

The IBA stated that Khelif did not undergo a testosterone examination but was subject to a confidential test, leading to their disqualification from the World Championships.
Despite the Algerian boxer's masculine appearance, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed that, according to her passport, the athlete is considered a woman.
Carini, however, retired after just 46 seconds of the match after being hit by Khelif, resulting in a bleeding nose.
The Italian boxer was visibly distressed, refusing Khelif's handshake and breaking down in tears.
Harry Potter author JK Rowling also said on X that the Paris Games would be "forever tarnished by the brutal injustice done to Carini".
A young female boxer has just had everything sheās worked and trained for snatched away because you allowed a male to get in the ring with her. Youāre a disgrace, your āsafeguardingā is a joke and #Paris24 will be forever tarnished by the brutal injustice done to Carini. https://t.co/JMKzVljpyr

The writer has incurred the wrath of activists in recent years over her stance that biological sex is immutable, often about the transgender debate.

"A young female boxer has just had everything she's worked and trained for snatched away because you allowed a male to get in the ring with her," she said.
Also on social media, tennis great Martina Navratilova described the situation as "deplorable", alleging that Khelif was a "biological man".
Reem Alsalem, the UN special rapporteur on violence against women and girls, wrote on X that Carini "and other female athletes should not have been exposed to this physical and psychological violence based on their sex".
