Elma Smit documents COVID-19 test process

Here’s all you need to know about being tested for COVID-19.
Tests are reserved for those people whose doctors find that they meet specific case criteria.
On 15 March 2020, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced a ‘national state of disaster’ within South Africa and listed measures to combat the spread of COVID-19.
COVID-19 is diagnosed by a laboratory test called a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) molecular test. The test investigates a sample taken from a patient’s respiratory tract - nose, throat, or chest.

Jacaranda FM’s Elma Smit recently traveled to Cape Town for work. Upon arriving back in Johannesburg, she did not feel well. She decided to get a COVID-19 test for the safety of herself and others.
Elma Smit told Martin Bester she waited 48 hours for her results.
