Professor Helen Rees is leading the SA part of a global trial to identify treatments for COVID-19. Professor Rees, Executive Director of the Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute, discusses vaccines and shared her broad knowledge on Breakfast with Martin Bester.

Professor Rees says: “It is very encouraging that we’re moving with getting vaccines, but there is a delay. The delay is a Johnson & Johnson manufacturing problem. Once we roll out the vaccine properly, we’ll see if it is a big problem with people not wanting the get vaccinated. There’s certainly people who are hesitant. My message is clear. Many of you have people who’ve had COVID-19. This is a nasty infection and the sooner we have the vaccine and get it, the better – I can recommend it."
