What was supposed to be a remarkable clash between Bishops College and SACS during the Cape Town schools' derby quickly turned sour when a fight broke out during the rugby match.

Moments after Bishops scored a try, bringing the scoreboard to 12-10 in Bishops' favour, a fight broke out between players of the opposing teams.

Things quickly took a turn for the worse when parents and old boys joined in on the fighting, causing a massive brawl.

The winning try was overshadowed by the appalling acts of the players and onlookers.

Watch here:

Social media users were left in utter disgust by the actions of the players and supporters.

Here are some of the responses:

"I was there, parents must not go onto the field; there are officials to sort any problem out! She cannot assault a child because she is a parent, I hope the childā€™s parents lays case of assault."

"I would hope a careful look is taken and those involved are banned from future matches."

"The woman slapping that boy must be charged with assault. Disgusting!"

ā€œIf parents join in such acts. Itā€™s no longer Rugby, it's thuggery. This happens when winning is seen as the only outcome."

The "thrilling encounter" at the Piley Rees Field on Saturday saw SACS leading 10-5 thanks to some superb defence in the second half.

However, it was Bishops who rose as the victors after they snatched the win with the converted try in the final play.
