It's a well-known fact that getting enough quality sleep is essential to living a healthy and fulfilling life.

Sleep has become an especially popular topic on TikTok, with many content creators and experts sharing suggestions on how to increase the quality of your sleep. From the millions of hacks available, IOL has identified five that might actually work.

Note: These are not expert tips and are only based on suggestions.

  • 1. Drinking lettuce water: Steep lettuce leaves in hot water to release natural compounds like lactucarium, which may help calm the nervous system and reduce stress.

    2. Military sleep: Systematically relax your body and clear your mind using visualisations or mantras to fall asleep in under two minutes.

    3. Alphabet sleep: Pick a category, such as animals or foods, and mentally list items in alphabetical order. This simple low-pressure exercise helps redirect your focus away from stress and overthinking, making it easier to relax and fall asleep.

    4. Breath work: Practise deep breathing, body relaxation, and visualisation techniques to promote faster and deeper rest.

    5. Brain tapping: Use binaural beats, soothing sounds, and light pulses to transition into a deeply relaxed, sleep-ready state. This technique uses specialised headphones and LED-equipped visors to guide your brainwaves from a state of activity to deep relaxation, helping you unwind and fall asleep more easily. It's like a science-backed version of guided meditation.
