"I was accidentally tripped by a tourist while she was taking photographs," she wrote, along with a photo of herself at Netcare Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital.

"While on stairs from the lighthouse at Cape Point, she walked backwards into me, tripping me down two steps.

"She tried to get the lighthouse in focus and took one step too far."

Naiker did add that she is grateful that she did not suffer any head injuries and remained compos mentis, but shared that she did incur a "serious injury".

Although she has been making good progress with the help of rehabilitation, the beauty queen warned people about the dangers of being distracted when taking photos.

I feel it imperative to use this platform to reaffirm that we:

1. Do not take photos at the peril of others or ourselves
2. Are observant, cognizant of our surroundings and situationally aware
3. Savour every moment and take it all in without having to witness it all through a lens
4. Are mindful, kind and not oblivious of the well-being of others

"Too many are dying while taking selfies and recording reels, and others are getting injured and killed by their negligence," she added.

Since the incident, Naiker, who is also an international speaker, has shared her journey to recovery, sending a message of hope and gratitude to her followers.

"I could write a book about my perspective from a wheelchair but I’ll leave those stories for another time suffice it to say that life can change in an instant. As challenging as the last 6 months have been, I could not be more grateful for the gift of another day."
