Foul smell in Centurion identified

Reports of a foul smell hanging over Centurion have been streaming in on social media.
After numerous reports of a noxious smell surrounding the Centurion area, the City of Tshwane has finally confirmed the source of the smell.
According to an online report, the smell is due to illegal oil dumping in the area.

Investigations have shown that oil is being dumped near the Sunderland Ridge Waste Water Treatment Works (WWTW).
A liquid waste disposal service provider is reportedly responsible for the dumping.
The Citizen reports that Centurion residents have taken to social media to complain about the gas-like smell since Monday.
The City of Tshwane has advised residents to stay indoors and keep their doors and windows closed for the time being.

Residents should also avoid the river downstream of Sunderland Ridge WWTW until further notice.
