WATCH: Gauteng teacher shares sad reasons she quit her job
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
A Gauteng teacher has taken to social media to reveal why she is leaving education, citing the rise of "gentle parenting" as one of the main reasons.

Breakfast with Martin Bester spoke to teacher Landi and other educators who shared the shocking reality of being a teacher in South Africa.
Teaching is a profession that needs true passion for an individual to excel and give their best effort.
However, despite the passion, determination, and hard work it takes, teaching is also one of the most underappreciated professions.
Still, many teachers continue their work, dealing with unruly children, difficult parents, longer-than-expected hours, and often being undervalued – all because of the passion and joy that teaching can bring.

But sometimes, even the most dedicated teachers have had enough.
A Gauteng teacher recently took to TikTok to share her reasons for why she's quit her job.
Landi, known as @teacherlandi on TikTok, uploaded a video where she expressed her belief that gentle parenting has eroded discipline in classrooms.
"All the joy has been sucked out of it. Are we a respected profession? No. Are we probably one of the most micro-managed professions? Yes. But didn’t you start teaching for the children? Yes," she began.
"You get to a point where not even that is enough. Although you have some children who are really eager to learn, gentle parenting has killed all discipline," she continued.

Landi added that even the salary and benefits of being a teacher are "not that great".
In her caption, she wrote: "It's just the truth! Show me a teacher who has been teaching for more than five years in South Africa and who is still very happy with their job."

Landi previously shared a video revealing that she had to welcome 53 new Grade 1 learners into her class at the beginning of the year.
