Francois van Coke is excited to announce on Breakfast with Martin Bester that although South Africa is still under lockdown and has serious gatherings restrictions, there will be a Francois van Coke & Vriende 2020!
The global pandemic has forced this year’s concert online and it will be streamed live from Cape Town on the 18th of September at 8pm SAST.
Francois explains: “This show has become a yearly highlight for us, and we won’t let the pandemic stop us. I turn 40 on 18 September and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate my birthday than sharing a stage with my friends and to do what I love most.”
Since the first Francois van Coke & Vriende concert kicked off in 2018 at Sun Arena in Pretoria, it quickly became a highlight with Francois’ fans and sells out every year. Last year just under 10 000 people attended the concert. Covid-19 is not going to stop it this year.
THE FRIENDS
Francois van Coke & Vriende aren’t just good friends and co-artists, they have also all co-written songs with Francois in the past. It has become tradition for Francois to co-write, record and release songs with ‘new’ friends in the build-up to the big event every year. This year Van Pletzen, Matthew Mole and Tarryn Lamb are the ‘new’ friends. Fans can look forward to two new collaborations with Van Pletzen and Matthew Mole which will be released soon.

ONLINE CONCERTS
Since the onset of Covid-19 in South Africa, Francois has done three online shows. His first online concert was from his home in Bellville and was streamed live during lockdown level 5. After that, his Stories agter die tunes concert was streamed live from Van Coke Studios in Cape Town. The third online concert was Fokofpolisiekar’s 17th birthday party which was Francois & Co’s biggest live streaming production yet. “Live shows are the biggest part of any artist’s livelihood, so the ban on public gatherings came as a big shock as it has a massive impact on the music industry. We quickly made plans and so I’m grateful for the great support my online shows have been receiving. I’m also excited to use and apply all the new knowledge we have gained to do something very special with Francois van Coke & Vriende Livestream 2020 show,” says Francois.
