There is nothing quite like it when South Africa, with all its uniqueness, gets international attention.

We get childishly excited (and proud) when our country, especially one of our 12 unique languages, is highlighted by the rest of the world.

Similarly, though, if someone spews negativity about our country or spreads false information, we are just as quick to react.

A recent viral clip on social media gained thousands of comments from South Africans after a young girl butchered the Afrikaans language.

The clip was shared by social media sensation Tayo Ricci, known for his shirtless interviews, and has garnered more than five million views on Facebook alone.

In the video, Ricci asks the girl what the best country in the world is. She answers, "South Africa", claiming it as her home country.

Ricci then asks her to say something in Afrikaans after she reveals she can speak the language.

Unfortunately, what came out of her mouth next was anything but Afrikaans.

Watch here:

Thousands of South Africans headed to the comment section to share their thoughts to the girl’s unexpected take on Afrikaans.

Here are some of the best comments:

  • "I am from South Africa, and I speak Afrikaans. I don't know what language that is, but it's not Afrikaans."
  • "I don't know Afrikaans, but that is not Afrikaans."
  • "As a South African, whose first language is Afrikaans, I'm wondering what she said."
  • "Shame baby girl played you. Didn't understand what she was trying to say, and I'm South African. But I'm sure you know that by now, judging from the comments. Probably only heard ONE word, 'beste,' which means 'the best.'"
  • "Afrikaans my gat!! That child is speaking k*k there."
