Grade 9 may soon be an exit point for schooling, according to the Minister of Basic Education.

Grade 9 may soon be an exit point for learners to leave school as the Department of Basic Education works on introducing a general education certificate.
On Thursday, the Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekha said that they are working on a framework for a general education certificate.

According to News24, Motshekha and her department are investigating the general education certificate.
This certification is set to include technical occupational subjects which have been packaged and submitted to Umalusi for approval.
The department of Basic Education will also be introducing multiple other qualifications before Grade 12.
The Department of Basic Education is working on formalizing Grade 9 as one of the exit points of schooling. That means learners will be able to finish school at Grade 9 and attain a General Education Certificate. #SABCNews
