Greed and betrayal in SA sport: Graeme Joffe on Breakfast with Martin Bester
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
In
an explosive interview on Breakfast with Martin Bester, Graeme Joffe delves
into the corruption in South African sport.
Disclaimer: The views expressed in this interview are not those of Jacaranda FM but of the journalist and author of the book. Right of reply is duly offered to any parties mentioned.
The author of the new book, 'SPORT: GREED & BETRAYAL', is a former CNN International sports anchor who had to flee South Africa for his safety. He joined Breakfast to talk about the dangers of being a whistleblower.
Martin Bester asked Joffe: "Money could go towards the development of sport. Every time there is an allegation of mismanagement of funds it feels like such a waste, right?"
Joffe replied: "South Africa should be getting 30 medals at the Olympics! There’s so much nepotism. Friends are hired as coaches. A lot of these guys at the top want ‘yes’ people who are going to turn a blind eye to corruption."
What is Joffe's message to other journalists?
"We have to speak up. It's never too late for change. You’re fighting for the athletes and you’re fighting for what’s right."
