Here's how much it will cost you to travel this holiday season

New reports show how much Johannesburg residents could spend travelling to Durban and Cape Town versus last year!
The holiday season is upon us, which means many of us will be making our way to some of South Africa's favourite holiday destinations.
Unfortunately, travelling to your favourite destination might not come cheap as flight tickets and petrol prices skyrocketed in 2022.

In new reports submitted by Times Live, the online newspaper broke down the cost of travelling from Johannesburg to Durban and Cape Town this year versus last year.
Here is the breakdown (these prices might vary and change):
Plane tickets:
- 2022:
Johannesburg to Durban - R631 for a one-way ticket (based on the cheapest option)
Johannesburg to Cape Town - R1,532 for a one-way ticket (based on the cheapest option)
- 2021:
Johannesburg to Durban - R821 a one-way ticket (based on the cheapest option)
Johannesburg to Cape Town - R1,121 for a one-way ticket (based on the cheapest option)
Bus tickets:
- 2022:
Johannesburg to Durban - R300 per ticket (based on the cheapest option)
Johannesburg to Cape Town - R450 per ticket (based on the cheapest option)
- 2021:
Johannesburg to Durban - R260 per ticket (based on the cheapest option)
Johannesburg to Cape Town - between R390 and R410 per ticket (based on the cheapest option)
Car drives:
This was based on one of South Africa's most popular vehicles and is only an average estimate*

A one-way trip from Johannesburg to Durban will be about 567km and a trip to Cape Town will be an estimated 1,398 km.
- 2022 Petrol cost for a full tank: R1,042
- 2021 Petrol cost for a full tank: R903
According to Times Live, using the same vehicle under class 1 of vehicles, toll tariffs will total R379.50 for a complete trip to Durban. Tolls will cost you R667.70 for a complete trip to Cape Town in 2022.
