High Court judge rules being a housewife is a full-time, payable job
The value of the compensation was made public.
A Kenyan High Court judge, Teresia Matheka, who oversaw a matrimonial property dispute, put a stop to the unfairness of the court wanting to rule that housewives do not contribute anything to the financial progress and workings of the family.

The judge said: “It is easy for the spouse working away from home and sending money to lay claim to the whole property purchased and developed with that money. But the spouse staying at home is taking care of the children and the family. That spouse will be heard to say that the other one was not employed so they contributed nothing.
“Raising children is a full-time job that families pay a person to do. Cooking and cleaning as well. Hence, for a woman in employment who has to balance childbearing and rearing, this contribution must be considered.”

The value of the compensation would amount to R54,800.
The judge substantiates her point by saying that pregnancy is the equivalent of working, just as a surrogate would be "paid if they were tasked to bear a child.”
