Hippo kills SANParks manager in Kruger National Park

Kobus de Wet was killed by a hippo while camping in the Kruger National Park with his wife.
Kobus de Wet, a senior SANParks manager in the Environmental Crime Investigations unit, has been killed by a hippo.
SANParks today announced the passing of one of its senior managers in the Environmental Crime Investigative Unit (ECI) Mr Kobus De Wet. It is said that De Wet, who is from Groenkloof in Pretoria, was camping in the Kruger National Park when the incident occurred.

SANParks spokesperson Ike Phaahla says: "We can confirm that we have lost one of the most effective, dedicated, and hard-working colleagues in the anti-poaching campaign in a tragic incident. He was charged by a hippo while camping in the Kruger National Park."
"He was very instrumental in the arrest and conviction of many poachers who are now behind bars. We pass our heartfelt condolences to his family during difficult time," explains Phaahla.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Saturday and was confirmed on Sunday.

It is currently not clear what led to the attack.
