Should you actually stop washing your jeans?
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
There has always been a timeless debate surrounding the frequency of washing your jeans, and we may have the answer.
The general rule for most clothing items is to wash them after a few wears, but when it comes to jeans, opinions vary widely. Some argue that jeans should never be washed.
As per CNBC, the person who might be partially responsible for this notion is Levi Strauss CEO Charles Bergh. In a 2014 event, Bergh suggested that you shouldn't wash your jeans, though his message was somewhat nuanced.
"I never said, 'Don't wash your jeans,'" he clarified to CNBC.

Bergh still refrains from using a washing machine to clean his denim. "True denim enthusiasts, those who truly cherish their denim, will advise you never to toss your jeans into a washing machine. That's precisely what I do," he noted. However, Bergh doesn't just let his jeans accumulate stains and dirt.
"If I accidentally spill some curry on my jeans, I'll clean it, but I'll spot clean it. And if they become particularly soiled, like after a sweaty outing, I'll wash them in the shower," he explained.
This entails wearing your jeans in the shower and lathering them with soap as you would with your body, according to Bergh.

It's believed that not washing your jeans can prolong their lifespan by preventing the denim fibers from breaking down. Furthermore, refraining from washing can enhance the appearance of your jeans.
In conclusion, while you should avoid machine-washing your jeans, it's essential to keep them clean.
