How to rewrite and re-mark 2024 matric exams
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
The Department of Basic Education is allowing 2024 matriculants to
rewrite subjects and even have their exam papers re-marked if they're
not satisfied with their results.
The Department of Basic Education's Second Chance Matric Support Programme is giving learners a second chance to retake their 2024 matric exams.
This programme is available to students who did not meet the minimum requirements for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) or matric exams and only need to pass up to two subjects to obtain their NSC.
According to School Hive, to qualify for a rewrite in 2024, matriculants must register at their local education district office before the cut-off date on February 7, 2025.

More information on how to register for a rewrite will be available on students' statements of results, which they'll receive on Tuesday, January 14.
"The Second Chance Matric Programme of the Department of Basic Education provides support to learners who want to rewrite subjects," writes the Department of Basic Education.
"It helps them to meet the requirements of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) or Senior Certificate (SC) and obtain a Grade 12 matric certificate."
Learners who missed exams due to medical reasons, a death in the family, or another special circumstance will also have the opportunity to rewrite, provided they submit documentary evidence explaining why they could not write in November.
"Candidates who do not meet the minimum higher education entry requirements or specific faculty requirements for a certain occupation in one subject can also rewrite that subject, provided they submit documentary evidence," states the department.

The following opportunities to rewrite are available:
March: National Senior Certificate (NSC) supplementary exams
June: National Senior Certificate (NSC) for progressed learners (learners who wrote the NSC the previous year but did not sit for all six subjects)
November: Part-time NSC candidates (learners who attempted the NSC examinations post-2015)
Re-marking your 2024 matric exams
Students who are not satisfied with their results in a specific subject can also apply for a re-mark or re-check of their exam papers.
Registration forms for re-marks or re-checks will be available at schools or examination centres.
The Second Chance Matric Support Programme provides support for students preparing for rewrites, offering free face-to-face classes, multimedia broadcasting solutions, online courses, and printed resources. These resources are available at face-to-face classes or through district or DBE offices.
