"I had a crush on my Afrikaans teacher": Hilarious tribute to teacher
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
"Die hond blaf, die kat meow, die hoender puk-puk, al dag. I had a crush on my Afrikaans teacher."
South Africa is such a diverse country with many different cultures, races, and, of course, our 12 official languages.
Because of this incredible diversity, it’s more likely than not that you'll find people who speak more than one language, and the combination of speaking two languages simultaneously often has a hilarious outcome.
One of the most recent combinations, made famous by singer-songwriter Peach van Pletzen, is "mengels", a combination between Afrikaans and English.

Keith Juluka, a comedian musician who has recently trended, also uses this combination, resulting in some of the funniest songs to hit South Africa.
Juluka recently left the whole of South Africa with tears in their eyes (from laughter) with his song, 'Mev. Du Plessis'.
The hilarious song explains Juluka’s crush that he had on his Afrikaans teacher, Mev. Du Plessis.
The song starts with the famous '7de Laan' intro and contains some hilarious and often random lyrics such as:
"Die hond blaf, die kat meow, die hoender puk-puk, al dag. I had a crush on my Afrikaans teacher."

The musician's latest song on TikTok, 'Ek Is Moeg', also had South Africans cackling.

Juluka sings about an email awaiting him in his inbox in the highly relatable song.
"I know there’s an email that hopes to find me well. I hope it don't find me. I hope it don't fine me. Ek is moeg. Ek is moeg."
