Lawyer Megan Harrington-Johnson clears up level 4 rules
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
Are you unsure about the law around domestic workers, masks, and exercising? Breakfast with Martin Bester’s resident lawyer has the answers.
Megan Harrington Johnson, an attorney from HJW in Johannesburg, joins Breakfast with Martin Bester on day 40 of the national lockdown.
HJW Attorneys was recognised as one of Africa’s Leading Boutique Law Firms in 2019.
There are new recommendations and regulations during the national lockdown.
Attorney Megan Harrington-Johnson answered a few questions listeners posed to Breakfast with Martin Bester.
DO YOU WEAR A MASK IN YOUR CAR WHEN TRAVELING ALONE?
The regulations are silent on wearing it in the car but the law says you have to wear a mask in a public place. To air on the side of caution, have the mask in the car and put it on.
DOMESTIC WORKERS
The regulations say only live-in domestic workers and gardeners may return back to work.
Any form of ‘nanny’ or childminder is allowed to return to work even when they’re not living on the property. However, they would need a permit.
CURFEW LAW (EXERCISING)
The law is taking this extremely seriously. While you may not be convicted of an offense, you can be put in a holding cell and you need to be bailed out.
For an in-depth conversation about level 4 rules, listen to the podcast.
