Lionesses kill Hoedspruit man who raised them

The 69-year-old owner of a Hoedspruit lodge was mauled to death by two of his lionesses on Wednesday morning.

The owner of two white lionesses, who were raised by hand over the past five years, was killed by the big cats on Wednesday on a luxury game farm outside Hoedspruit.
West Mathewson, owner of the Lion Treetop Lodge in Hoedspruit, died of multiple injuries.
The lionesses have been moved to a nearby farm.
According to JacaNews, Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo says the attack took place while his wife “helplessly” watched on.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, has warned members of society to be careful around dangerous animals to avoid these tragic incidents from happening.
Mojapelo says police are investigating the incident.
