A video which has been shared widely across social media shows the moment a crocodile attacked a local KZN handler during a live show.

The video, which was also shared on the Reaction Unit South Africa's (Rusa) Facebook page, has garnered over 100,000 views.

In the amateur video shared with Rusa, the handler can be seen stroking the crocodile with a wooden stick before the croc snapped at the man.

The angry croc grabbed the handler by the leg, pulling him to the ground, while the distressed screams of onlookers can be heard in the background.

The handler managed to free himself in time and fled the enclosure.

According to their post, the man was attacked at Crocodile Creek in Greylands, KwaZulu-Natal, leaving him with serious leg injuries.

Luckily, the handler was rushed to a medical facility, and according to the owner of Crocodile Creek, Peter Watson, the man is in a stable condition.

"While I am happy that the employee managed to escape and is currently stable, we are concerned about the violation of protocol. When someone goes into the pond, we require them to have another employee standing by to monitor the situation," Watson said.
