South Africa is getting a new Afrikaans university campus worth R3.2 billion.

Afrikaans university Akademia, in collaboration with real estate development company Kanton, has embarked on the largest project in its history.
The companies are constructing a new university campus worth R3.2 billion.
According to Daily Investor, this endeavour was first announced in August 2024 and has been recognised in Nedbank's latest Capital Expenditure Project Listing report as one of South Africa's most significant private investments.

The campus development forms part of Akademia's Toekomsbouer (future builder) campaign, marking a major milestone for Afrikaans higher education.
As the most extensive development project ever undertaken by the Afrikaans language community, the campus aims to ensure the sustainability and growth of tertiary education in Afrikaans.
Situated east of Pretoria, the development is located just eight kilometres from Solomon Mahlangu Drive on Boschkop Road.
The new campus is set to welcome its first first-year students in 2028.
The new residential campus will provide accommodation for 5,000 full-time undergraduate students and approximately 1,500 postgraduate students.

Plans include four men's and four women's residences, accommodating 1,500 students on campus.
This expansion represents a significant step forward for Akademia, which has operated with interim facilities since 2012 and only introduced its full-time campus model in 2021.

Currently, Akademia has two campuses, four residences, two day houses, and an administrative head office in Centurion.
Kanton, which has a proven track record in delivering large-scale developments on time and within budget – such as Solidarity’s Sol-Tech technical college campus in Centurion – serves as the financing vehicle for the new Akademia campus.

The campus will feature state-of-the-art academic and residential facilities, as well as various restaurants, cafés, and extensive sports facilities catering to rugby, cricket, tennis, athletics, and swimming.
With this transformative investment, Akademia is poised to shape the future of Afrikaans higher education, providing students with world-class facilities and an enriching university experience.
