LOOK: R38-million for 'standard' Western Cape home

Did they maybe add an extra zero to the price?
Plettenberg Bay is known as one of the most affluent areas in the Western Cape, with the town's Beachy Head Drive being dubbed, "Africa's Millionaire Row".
Naturally, one would assume that these houses would cost a pretty penny, but a recent house listing in the area shocked social media users.

This four-bedroom house in Plettenberg Bay, Western Cape, is on the market for R38-million, and although it's a pretty home, many felt that it wasn't worth the price.
"Just checked the pictures. This is extortion," commented one user.
"I think they loaded the wrong pics, I will just assume. Do I own the sea as well for R38m?" asked another user.
"Looks dated. Needs major upgrade. The land has the value. The house pretty standard," said a third user.

Many noted that the reason for the price, however, is the affluent area in which it is located.
According to the latest African Wealth Report by Henley&Partners and New World Wealth, the Garden Route on South Africa's South Coast is home to 3,200 high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs).
The property’s listing on Property24 also states that properties in this area rarely come onto the market, making this an exclusive and coveted location.
The property boasts pristine views of Plettenberg Bay and Robberg Beach, with direct access to Robberg Beach.
This added feature is excellent for those who value quick access to the beach for those who enjoy the coastal lifestyle.

Based on the information on the listing, the property doesn't really have any other stand-out features.
The R38-million house has three bathrooms, a guest toilet, open-plan living areas, covered patios, and an entertainment area.
It also includes a self-contained flatlet with an en-suite bedroom, living area, kitchenette, a double garage, staff accommodation, and a lock-up storeroom.
