Students and club owners might not be the biggest fans of Tshwane Mayor Nasiphi Moya, but she has definitely won the hearts of many parents and educators.

As part of her crackdown on illegal and non-compliant business operators, Moya recently revealed that she and her team had shut down a non-compliant student nightclub.

The Tshwane mayor took to her X account, saying that she and her team were responding to concerns over students' safety at a popular nightclub in the Hatfield area.

"I had to see the situation firsthand," she said on X.

"We are closing down Square 2.0 [nightclub] due to non-compliance with building regulations. Patrons are vacating the establishment. Students have extra hours to study tonight," she wrote in an update.

According to Moya, the vice-chancellor of the University of Pretoria had shared concerns about student safety at nightclubs in the area.

"We have a responsibility to keep all the residents of Tshwane safe, especially young people," she said.

In a video posted to Moya's X account, MMC for Community Safety Hannes Coetzee added that this crackdown was meant to ensure that city bylaws were enforced.

Coetzee also addressed parents, saying, "You think that your child is studying at university, meanwhile they are running around in these clubs. This is a place of learning and education; they cannot have a liquor license."

A second video in her post also shows students actively leaving the premises after the nightclub was shut down.

According to The South African, this mission was part of Moya's task to shut down several nightclubs that were operating outside their licencing agreements.
