Man shot in the chest after spiking incident on N4
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
Thanks to drone footage from drones supplied by Anglo, community members could locate Neil Coetzer after he was shot in the chest.
Neil Coetzer, 49, is currently fighting for his life after he was spiked on the N4 and then shot in the chest.
Breakfast with Martin Bester spoke to Kobus Grobler, one of the CPF members who came to Coetzer's rescue after the tragic incident.
Grobler told Martin Bester that he started a community reaction group in 2023, which has since become a strong team of community members, police, and other CPF groups.
The group was started as the N4, which runs between Rustenburg and Pretoria, is notorious for various crimes and spiking incidents.

"The N4 runs through our community and we needed to do something," Grobler said.
Grobler told Martin Bester that they were able to find Neil thanks to drones that were supplied by Anglo American Tactical Response Teams (TRT).
"Anglo Platinum became a part of the partnership, and they gave us state-of-the-art drones to use. It's on a new level, and we as the private sector can't afford it as it's over a R1-million drone," he said.
These drones are able to see within about a 20km radius and send notifications when they see cars pull off or stand still on the road.
The drones sent the security group notifications that Neil Coetzer's car stood still.

"The drone sent a notification. We reacted and were about 15 minutes away. Six minutes later, the drones sent a notification of four men approaching the car."
Community security members immediately started responding, and after a few minutes, other community members started reporting that they heard gunshots.
"I came there and started looking and calling for Neil. About 300m away, we saw someone flashing lights. We drove there, and other community CPF members found Niel.
"Niel got out to change the tyre after the spiking. The men then approached his car. He ended up being shot in the chest."
On behalf of the Good Morning Angles Fund, Martin Bester gave Kobus Grobler and his community group R10,000 to support the good work they are doing.
