A devastating fire destroyed a home in Northcliff, just a few days after the family moved in. David, the distraught homeowner spoke to Breakfast with Martin Bester about the incident.

A privately owned firefighting operation arrived on scene to assist with the raging fire but it was too late to save the house and all its contents.

David explained to Martin Bester, “We only just moved into the house a week ago. We went to bed at about 21:15 and locked everything up, moments later we discovered that the ceiling was already on fire, and I couldn’t get my boerboel out of the lounge”.

David went on to explain that he could not save all his dogs and had to get his family to safety before the roof collapsed. All the checks and compliance certificates were in place, as is mandatory before the transfer of a property.

David’s tragedy has brought awareness to people around various safety checks to carry out in your home, and the sad reality of having to work out escape routes should you ever be in that position.
