Miss SA Natasha Joubert: "I felt I let the country down"
Natasha Joubert opened up about her mental health struggles following her time at the Miss Universe pageant.
On Tuesday, Miss South Africa 2023 Natasha Joubert joined Breakfast with Martin Bester to discuss her Miss SA journey following her crowning on Sunday, 13 August.
South Africa’s brand new Miss SA was crowned at the Sun Bet Arena in Pretoria.
Joubert shared her joy of receiving the crown and her struggle with depression after she represented South Africa in the Miss Universe competition in 2021.
The Centurion-born Joubert was the first runner-up at the Miss SA competition in 2020, leading to her competing in Miss Universe.

Joubert told Martin Bester that she felt she let South Africa down after she wasn’t successful at the Miss Universe competition.
"It was more about letting down the country than myself. That’s how I felt at the time."
Through hard work and looking after her mental health Joubert rose from the ashes and decided to compete in the Miss SA competition a second time.
The new Miss SA shared that she believes everyone should focus on their mental health and that there doesn’t have to be something wrong for you to see a psychologist.

Joubert jokingly put out a disclaimer to let South Africans know that she would, in fact, not be 'a perfect Miss SA' but instead focus on helping people embrace imperfections.
"I want them [little girls] to, after the year, look at me and say: embrace the imperfections."
