On Friday, 25 April, Martin Bester spoke to Marco Jordaan, who said his dog, a five-year-old AmStaff named Alexa, is missing.

Jordaan played the Morning Family Quiz on 'Breakfast with Martin Bester' before telling the team that he believes Alexa was stolen on March 30, 2025.

He said that his American Staffordshire Terrier is "awesome and friendly with people" and would probably not have bitten anyone who tried to pick her up.

Since her disappearance, the community, animal organisations, and even private investigator Mike Bolhuis have been searching for the dog.

"My wife and I are heartbroken. We are very worried and have long since exceeded our budget with expenses related to finding Alexa. We don’t care why she was taken – just bring her back," he pleads.

He says that on the afternoon of Sunday, March 30, visitors from a house further down Mancelaan, Mayville, saw three men loading the dog into a car as they were leaving the house.

"They realised the dog was being stolen and chased the suspicious car, but the eyewitnesses had a child in the vehicle who began crying, and they lost the trail," says Jordaan.

The witnesses remembered part of the number plate and the make of the vehicle and informed the Jordaans.

"Alexa is an AmStaff, and many people confuse it with a pit bull. I don't know what the motive was, but my dog is my 'daughter'. She lies on the couch like a person. I don’t want to think about what could’ve happened to her."

Jordaan describes Alexa as mostly white and "dark brindle".

She has dark brown speckled patches, "as if there are golden bits mixed in with the brown hairs".

"And then, in the white on her neck, is a brindle circle, which almost looks like an apple with a little stem."

More information:

  • The vehicle in which Alexa was taken is believed to be a silver or light grey Datsun Go.

  • The partial number plate is JF19?? GP.

  • According to a statement sent out by Bolhuis's team at Specialised Security Services, the vehicle has a dull hood compared to the rest of the car, and a broken tail light.
