More than 70% of Louis Vuitton items on Gumtree reportedly fake
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
Let's be honest - Louis Vuitton items are expensive, but how do you know when a Louis Vuitton item is fake?
If you want the real thing, you are going to pay big money for Louis Vuitton items. That's the reality.
However, that reality means that fake items have been flooding the market for years, as the demand for owning a 'Louis Vuitton' handbag is massive - even among those who struggle to make ends meet.

According to Business Insider, more than 70% of Louis Vuitton belts, bags, and sunglasses on Gumtree were identified as fake by evaluators for specialist retailer Luxity.
Only 28.8% of the other Louis Vuitton items were identified as real.
The big question is - how do you know whether a Louis Vuitton item is fake or not?
If the seller gives you multiple prices and designs, red lights should go off. Louis Vuitton only distributes to their own stores and no one else. Louis Vuitton does not wrap any of its products in plastic, except for some handbags with thick surfaces. Sellers will focus a lot on descriptions such as 'genuine leather'. Google or go to the store for the real price.
