Mpho Phalatse: "I have fought to the very top"
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
Breakfast with Martin Bester spoke to former Mayor Mpho Phalatse following her resignation as DA councillor.
Former Johannesburg Mayor Mpho Phalatse, who has been working as a PR councillor for the DA in Johannesburg, confirmed her resignation from the role on Tuesday on Breakfast with Martin Bester.
Phalatse told Martin Bester that her resignation was due to the regression of professionalism in the council, as well as rampant corruption, looting, and the victimisation of innocent council members.

"I am also concerned about myself," she said.
"I want to work in a professional space and a space that reminds me what is right and wrong."
To some, it might seem like Phalatse has lost her fighting spirit, but for the former mayor, it’s about looking after her own health.
"I have fought; I have fought to the very top of the DA.
"We are unable to work effectively within our coalition, and that has made us unable to save Johannesburg."
As she pointed out to Martin Bester, Phalatse has high hopes for next year’s election.

"The collation is not working. I hope our voters are learning lessons now. It will depend on our nation in next year’s elections."
She also reiterated the importance of Johannesburg.
"We are talking about a city that contributes to 15% of the country's GDP with 60-million residents."
