South African UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis successfully defended his title at UFC 312 after his second match against his American rival, Sean Strickland.
Du Plessis won his second fight against Strickland through a unanimous decision in Sydney, Australia, on Sunday.

The 31-year-old secured victory with scores of 50-45, 50-45, and 49-46, boosting his win-loss record to 23-2 and securing his status as mixed martial arts' top 185-pound fighter.

Aside from retaining his UFC middleweight champion title and belt, Du Plessis also enjoyed an exceptional payday.
According to The Sports Rush, the 31-year-old allegedly received a base salary of $1.2 million, an additional fee of $400,000, his pay-per-view payout, and $42,000 in sponsorships.
That brings his total earnings to a staggering $2.14 million (about R40 million).
Strickland reportedly took home $1 million as his base salary, along with an additional $32,000 from sponsorships.

The total amount the American fighter is said to have earned stands at $1.03 million (about R19 million).
Du Plessis first claimed the UFC middleweight champion belt when he defeated Strickland via a close split decision in Toronto in January last year, though the polarising American repeatedly insisted he had won.
The South African later launched a successful title defence against Nigeria-born Israel Adesanya in August, while Strickland rebounded with a lacklustre victory over Brazil's Paulo Costa to set up the rematch.
