New Jersey students leap to safety as fire envelopes their building
Updated | By The Scenic Drive with Rian
Over a dozen young girls from a New Jersey dance school had to leap to safety as flames devoured their building.
Residents of Edgetown, New Jersey woke up to news of a burned multi-use building that endangered the lives of 15 young dance students.
Witness Ilker Kesiktas says he noticed smoke curling up the side of the building and, when he noticed that the building was indeed on fire, he enlisted the help of other local business owners. They brought ladders to the side of the building and guided the girls as they climbed and jumped out of an open window.
Local police sergeant James Dalton joined the rescue efforts, and described the incident as "the scariest moment of his career".
The girls all escaped the burning building with minor, non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
