New Joburg mayor to focus on potholes
The newly elected Johannesburg mayor, Thapelo Amad, said he is planning on prioritising the city’s failing infrastructure.
On Friday, the City of Johannesburg welcomed a new mayor following the election of Al Jama-ah councillor Thapelo Amad.
This comes after a motion of no-confidence against former mayor Mpho Phalatse resulted in her being removed from the role.

According to Jacaranda FM news, Amad garnered 138 votes, against the 81 votes in favour of his predecessor Mpho Phalatse and ActionSA councillor Funzi Ngobeni’s 46 votes.
In an interview with Newzroom Afrika, the newly elected Joburg mayor confirmed that his first focus for the city would be prioritising service delivery.
When asked what he would prioritise in his first 100 days in office, he replied: "potholes".

"I'm looking at potholes. We need to identify systems that assist human capital in terms of identifying those systems.”
Amad represents Al Jama-ah, a South African political party which was formed in 2007.
