The police spokesperson joined Breakfast with Martin Bester telephonically to provide clarity on the rules and arrests.
Police spokesperson Vish Naidoo says citizens will face criminal charges for violating the National Disaster Management Act.
The Police spokesperson admits it was a busy weekend for authorities.
"There were people who tried to travel to different suburbs and provinces. Some used the excuse of buying groceries and medication," Naidoo said.

On Friday, police had already detained 17 people at a religious ceremony for violating lockdown rules.
South Africans are under orders to observe strict confinement to fight the virus spread and are allowed to leave their homes only to buy food or for medical issues. Any gatherings are strictly prohibited.
