The POPIA act explained by HJW Attorneys

On 1 July 2021, South Africa's Protection of Personal Information (POPI) Act came into effect.
You probably have heard about the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), but what does it entail? The Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) is South Africa’s data protection law.
The purpose of POPIA is to protect people from harm by protecting their personal information.
By doing this, the POPIA sets conditions for when it is above the law for companies to process someone’s personal information.

Associate Kimberley Tee from HJW Attorneys in Fourways joined Breakfast with Martin Bester to shed light on the act.
Kimberely Tee says: “It’s all in a way to ensure companies are compliant with the act. You must incorporate the act continuously. If you are an existing client and by not replying to the mails you received in the last 24 hours, it would mean you feel your information is correct.”
