Many areas in Fort Beaufort have seen water restrictions since November 2022. Residents finally had enough when criminals damaged one of the water supply pumps on 11 January.
The damage to the water pump left thousands of households in several wards without water.

News 24 reported that the Amathole District Municipality Mayor, Anele Ntsangani, claimed that the water restrictions were the result of sabotage.
“We visited four reservoirs and treatment works with municipal officials. We discovered that the pump station’s cables were vandalised, and water could not be pumped into the four reservoirs,” she said.
