Clinical Psychologist advises on the importance of mental health during lockdown

Mental health shouldn’t be underestimated at a time like this. Many people are struggling.
South Africa is currently in a nationwide lockdown to combat the spread of coronavirus, but heightened feelings of uncertainty, unrest, anxiety, and loneliness have surfaced as a result.
Isolation amid the global COVID-19 pandemic adds to psychological distress.
Johannesburg-based clinical psychologist Samantha Williams joined Breakfast with Martin Bester to talk about the different aspects of life people are struggling with during the national lockdown in South Africa.

Williams emphasises: “There is so much information coming through about the virus and there’s so much uncertainty which causes people to feel anxious. There’s no certainty around many things.
“Life should not be put on hold; it should be able to adapt to change.
“There has been a rise in depression, anxiety, and suicide.”
