R18-billion government precinct to be built

Phase 1 of a new state-owned precinct is coming to Tshwane!
The South African government has announced that a new R18-billion government precinct will be built in Gauteng, Tshwane.

The plan for the precinct is to accommodate five government head offices permanently. These include:
- The Department of Higher Education and Training;
- The Department of Home Affairs;
- The Department of Correctional Services;
- The Department of Correctional Services;
- Statistics South Africa headquarters (already completed);
- The consolidated headquarters for the Department of Social Development, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) and the National Development Agency.
The first phase of the R18-billion government precinct is expected to create about 3,200 jobs.

It is expected that the project's first phase will be completed by the end of 2022.
According to Business Tech, other planned developments for the project include office space, commercial, residential, retail, open space, schools, and health care.
