BACKGROUND: Mandela Day 2021 was marked this past Sunday, 18 July 2021, in a South Africa that is going through the worst civil unrest since democracy, as well as Level 4 COVID-19 lockdown and all the hardship that comes with it.
On Wednesday last week, Good Morning Angels set out to assist the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital, which has been under extra pressure since the fire in April at the neighbouring Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Hospital. In a few hours, some 100 very ill, vulnerable children were transferred from the fire damaged hospital to NMCH. All of these children are from families who cannot afford medical aid or private treatment and they had nowhere else to go.The Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital is privately funded and has to raise funds to treat the state patients in its care. The cost of treatment per child is on average R30,000.
True to Madiba’s dream, the hospital the bares his name does not turn any ill child away - and that’s why we have set out the help and give hope in these desperate times.
We started with a target to assist 10 children and by Friday, we stood at R477,000 and raised our target to R500,000….
Thank you to all the donors!
* George Patterson donated the R23,000 needed to take our total to the new target of R500,000!
But, it didn’t stop there …
* Loapi Labour donated R30,000
* Nicki Wagenaar donated R10,000
* Micheal de Klerk from My Solar System donated R5,000
* Cowley Paints in Nelspruit donated R5,000
* Andrew Matysiak donated R10,000
