VIDEO: Severe winds blow vehicles over bridge in Western Cape
The South African Weather Service issued a warning about severe weather patterns, including heavy rains, windy weather, and cold temperatures over the weekend.
Destruction struck numerous parts of the Western Cape over the weekend after severe weather patterns wreaked havoc, impacting many roads and buildings.
Much of the devastation was caught on camera and shared on social media.
One incident, in particular, left social media users stunned. It showed a truck trailer component being blown off the N1 bridge, approaching the Huguenot Tunnel.

The clip shows one truck already on its side on the road when the last compartment of an approaching truck also tilts to the side.
The severe wind hit the truck compartment with such force that instead of falling on its side on the road, the entire trailer was sent off the bridge.

Another disturbing sight that was caught on camera shows what looks like a caravan being unhinged from a vehicle and then being blown over the same bridge.

According to Mike Vinello-Lippert, the South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) project manager for the Huguenot Tunnel, the truck driver is safe and has not been harmed.

IOL also reported on road closures across the Western Cape, including the Huguenot Tunnel, the famous Chapman's Peak Drive and the Baden Powell Drive at Coastal Park and at Khayelitsha.

The Western Cape and the City of Cape Town remain on high alert for severe weather conditions.
"The Western Cape can expect strong winds and torrential downpours from Saturday evening through to Tuesday," Anton Bredell, Western Cape Minister for Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, said.
