This year’s election was even bigger than anticipated, with thousands waiting until the morning hours of Thursday to cast their vote.
On Wednesday, 29 May, many South Africans headed to various voting stations across South Africa to practice their democratic right and fulfil their civil duty.

Many South Africans reported a smooth process from standing in the queues to the point where they cast their vote, but unfortunately, many weren’t as lucky.
Although positive, the outcome of this year's elections was bigger than anticipated, which meant that many voters had to endure excessively long queues.
According to Breakfast with Martin Bester newsreader Gerda de Sousa, thousands were still waiting to vote until the morning hours of Thursday.
In Hatfield, Pretoria and numerous other spots across Gauteng, Western Cape, and South Africa, for that matter, some only cast their vote at 3am.

Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and Eastern Cape were especially hit with long waits.
Many residents took to social media to share how long some of the queues really were.
