South Africans react to Facebook’s name change

Have you logged onto ‘Meta’ yet?
The social media giant Facebook will henceforth be known as ‘Meta’.
The Business Standard reported that the name change comes amid criticism from lawmakers and governments over Facebook's market power, the policing of abuse on various platforms, and the algorithm.

This decision was made at a live virtual conference on 28 October 2021 by Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg.

The company said: “Announcing @Meta — the Facebook company’s new name. Meta is helping to build the metaverse, a place where we’ll play and connect in 3D. Welcome to the next chapter of social connection.”
The new name takes getting used to and South Africans expressed how they feel on social media.
